"MVP" is one of the most stretched words in tech, and that is exactly why cost estimates for one run from a few hundred euros to well past fifty thousand. The number depends entirely on what you actually mean by it. Here is an honest map: what an MVP really is, what moves the price, and what you get at each level.
What an MVP actually is
A minimum viable product is the smallest thing that delivers your core value to real users and lets you learn from how they use it. It is not a prototype, which just proves the idea to you, and it is not version one of everything you eventually want to build. The discipline of an MVP is subtraction: what is the one thing this has to do well, and what can wait?
What drives the cost
- Scope. The number of core flows. One well-built flow is cheap; five interlocking ones are not.
- Complexity. Payments, real-time features, third-party integrations and AI features each add real engineering.

- Freelancer: €3,000 to €15,000. One person, one perspective. Cost-effective for a well-defined build, but you carry the risk of a single point of failure and variable quality.
- Studio or agency: €15,000 to €50,000 and up. Design, engineering and product thinking together, built on a foundation meant to scale. A small, tightly scoped MVP can land below that range; a multi-platform one with heavy integrations sits above it.
What you actually get at each level
The price is not really buying hours, it is buying how far the result can go. A no-code or AI build gets you to "does anyone want this?". A freelancer gets you a working product for a clear, contained idea. A studio gets you something you can put real marketing spend behind, hand to investors, and grow without rebuilding in a year. None is wrong; they answer different questions.
The most expensive MVP is the one that builds the wrong thing beautifully. Scope is the real budget.

- Running it. Hosting, databases and third-party services are usually modest at first, but they are not zero.
- Iterating after launch. An MVP is the start of the conversation with users, not the end of the project. Budget for the changes their feedback will demand.
- Maintenance. Dependencies age, platforms change, security needs attention. Software is a garden, not a statue.
How to get the most MVP for your money
- Cut scope ruthlessly. Every feature you defer is money saved and clarity gained.
- Pick one platform first. Prove it on web or one app store before you build for all of them.
- Use a proven stack. Boring, well-understood technology is cheaper to build on and cheaper to hire for.
- Do not gold-plate. Polish the one thing that matters; leave the rest deliberately plain.

A validation-grade MVP can cost almost nothing but your time. A production-grade one, ready for real users and real growth, is typically a five-figure investment. The right number is the one that matches the question you are trying to answer.
